Moving is a stressful process. With so much to plan and organize, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and stressed. That’s why we were happy to put together this short guide to help you get organized and create a sort of checklist to remind you of everything that needs to get done. 

Give Yourself Plenty of Time

Packing is one thing you don’t want to procrastinate. Giving yourself plenty of time to prepare can help the whole process go smoother, saving you a heap of stress. Schedule time in your weekly routine to declutter and pack your space. The more time you give yourself to prepare, the better! 

Pick a Moving Date and Stick to It

Now that you’ve taken the time to prepare well in advance, pick a moving date and stick to it. This will help you coordinate your planning and packing, as well as keep everyone on track for when the big day arrives. Make sure to plan out your move so that it doesn’t coincide with any other important dates, such as holidays or celebrations.

Declutter the Space

Before you even start packing, take the time to declutter your house. Go through every room (and yes, we mean every room!) and determine which items you are taking with you or discarding. We recommend sorting items into buckets, such as…

Create a Packing Plan

Packing can be incredibly overwhelming, especially if you’re trying to do everything by yourself. To save yourself some stress and hassle, don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Ask your family members to participate, and even consider asking some close friends to pitch in (and maybe treat them to a nice lunch for their efforts!). If you’re packing an office, have your employees lend a hand as well. And if it still seems like too much, you can always contact a professional moving company for help. 

Delegate the Work

If you’re able to get some extra help, it’s important to delegate the work so everyone can participate.
